Budva

budva

One of the oldest towns in the Balkans, Budva was purportedly founded by a Phoenician king in the 5th century B.C. Today it claims to have 200 days of sunshine a year and the best night life in Montenegro. The walled old town was rebuilt after the earthquake in 1979 and features palaces and small galleries and restaurants. The summer festival has drawn performers as well known as Madonna. Sadly, its beaches, which were voted the most beautiful in all of Europe in the 1930s, have been built up with multi-story concrete hotels and apartments and many more are rising still.
