10 rue des argillons Chaumont-Sur-Loire, Centre, France
Originally a fortress, this Renaissance castle is today a world renowned center for landscape architecture that is a must for gardeners and modern art enthusiasts. The estate hosts the annual International Garden Festival with a different theme each year (which lasts several months), and features contemporary gardens from over 30 landscape architects. Many of the property’s spaces (including the chapel and the charming outbuildings) feature stunning art installations. Design and garden-lovers will want to schedule at least a half-day here, with lunch in the village at La Détente Gourmande.
