The Dana Biosphere Reserve was established in 1989 and is Jordan’s largest and most diverse nature reserve, with a rugged and mountainous landscape along the face of the Great Rift Valley. Dana is home to over 800 plant species and a variety of wildlife, including several globally threatened species of birds and mammals. The Valley where Dana is located sweeps down in a series of mountain ridges, and the mountains are cut by many steep-sided wadis, topped with trees and shrubs. There are multiple hiking options for visitors to explore, with trails ranging from easy to challenging. Dana Guest House makes for a nice stop for lunch with sweeping, panoramic views of the area after a day of hiking (it’s more for the view than the food).
