Az.Ag. E. Pira & Figli, Via Vittorio Veneto, Barolo, Piedmont, Province of Cuneo, Italy
A revolutionary who helped put the region on the map, Chiara Boschis is the most famous female winemaker in Piedmont. She fought to be a winemaker at a time when no women in the region were, and has become the “Barolo Girl” in a crowd of Barolo boys. Hers is a small production winery, and though the wines aren’t that expensive in their release years, the price grows enormously as they age. The tour and tasting experience here is unbelievably special and often led by Chiara herself. Note, it is nearly impossible to buy bottles of Barolo from this winery as they sell out almost immediately.
