Visiting the geysers (called Geysir and Strokkur) in this valley is a tourist must, but be sure to go early, as the place gets overrun, especially during the high season. Stay on the marked paths; the geothermal field abounds with mud pots and the ground is thin. No need to plan on a huge amount of time; it’s cool to see the geyser erupt at close range, shooting up to 100 feet into the sky in five- to ten-minute intervals, but there’s not much more to see once the initial excitement has worn off.
