Mount Etna's lava-black slopes are rich in minerals, and its verdant landscapes produce top-rated wines.  Winery visits are normally by-appointment-only and should be organized well in advance. If you don't speak Italian, it helps to have a guide who can translate. Many of the owners will also serve a light lunch as part of a visit.
