National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Ein as Seirah, Old Cairo, Egypt

See Website

NMEC is the first museum in the Arab world focusing on the earliest civilization in history: the Ancient Egyptian Civilization. The permanent collection at NMEC sits on the main floor and consists of artifacts and antiquities from the Predynastic and Ancient Egyptian period up to modern times (pieces were moved from all over Egypt to create this incredible display). The mummy wing—home to a staggering 22 mummies (18 kings and 4 queens)—sits on the bottom level of the museum: guests walk through a winding black and gold corridor where all the mummies are located. It’s meant to feel crypt-like, and it does. No photography is allowed in the mummy wing.
