Piazzetta Reale, Turin, Metropolitan City of Turin, Italy
Also called the Royal Palace of Turin, this historic palace has been refurbished, renovated and enhanced many times since it came into possession of the Savoy family in 1563. A grand staircase and elaborate rooms await, with carved and gilded ceilings, engaged marble columns topped with gold, dazzling chandeliers and allegorical canvases and frescos occupying every spare space. Now said to display the life and works of the House of Savoy, the palace is home to an extensive collection of tapestries and Chinese and Japanese vases and also houses the Royal Armoury and The Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the resting place of the Shroud of Turin.
