Redfish Lake

Sun Valley

See Website

Past Galena Lodge by one hour, this pristine, crystal-clear, glacial-carved lake fringed by sandy beaches. Redfish Lake is named after the brilliant sockeye salmon that make the annual 900-mile pilgrimage from the Pacific Ocean to the Sawtooth Valley and caused the lake to shimmer red during spawning season. Today the salmon population dwindles despite conservation efforts, but Redfish remains a magical, unspoiled summer destination. This day-trip is best executed with picnic supplies and an early morning start, as it is popular during July and August. Motorboats, kayaks and paddleboards are available for rental.
