Set in what used to be the presidential palace, The Rwanda Art Museum (called the Presidential Palace Museum until 2018) displays contemporary art by Rwandan and international artists. One of the primary draws for tourists is visiting the jet debris in the neighboring gardens, the site of the presidential jet crash on April 6th 1994. This event has been recounted as the moment that sparked the 1994 genocide, though evidence suggests it had been planned years prior to the crash. The museum is located near Kigali’s international airport.
