Recommends Liza Graves, the founder of high-end villa rental company Beautiful Places:

This park comprises a number of National Historic Landmark sites and buildings in Sonoma, which include the Plaza, the Sonoma Barracks, and the home of the Mexican commandant, General Vallejo. It includes the Mission San Francisco Solano de Sonoma, popularly called the Sonoma Mission, the last and most northern of California’s 21 missions, which was built in 1823 and marked the end of El Camino Real (the king’s highway). For 25 days in 1846, Sonoma was capital of the independent Republic of California. The Bear Flag Revolt started events that resulted later in the first California flag and American rule throughout the state.
