Tinganes

The capital of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn means “Thor’s Harbour” in Old Norse, named for the most important god in the Norse religion. Tinganes is a cluster of buildings that juts into the sea and is the site of the original Vikings parliament, built in the 9^th century AD. The charming wooden buildings that stand there today, painted in deep reds and cheerful yellows, are from the 16^th-century.
