Tinganes

Tinganes

The capital of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn means “Thor’s Harbour” in Old Norse, named for the most important god in the Norse religion. Tinganes is a cluster of buildings that juts into the sea and is the site of the original Vikings parliament, built in the 9th century AD. The charming wooden buildings that stand there today, painted in deep reds and cheerful yellows, are from the 16th-century.
