The California coast is not only home to incredible wildlife but is also an unrivaled conservation success story. In 1987, there were only 22 California Condors left in the wild, but thanks to herculean efforts of bird lovers and conservationists, they now number more than 300. Many of them can be seen daily soaring over the local beaches (Mile Marker 41 is a popular sighting spot, as is Andrew Morela State Park). The Falconry Experience at Ventana brings guests up close to peregrine falcons, which were also saved from endangerment, as well as barn owls and falcons.
