Suzanne Martin’s London

Suzanne Martin is the creator of the Couture Brow at the Lanesborough Club & Spa, (part of The Lanesborough on Hyde Park Corner, a sister property to the rest of the Oetker Collection including Le Bristol in Paris and the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in France).

Previously working with Christian Dior, Suzanne now specializes in the personalized “couture” eyebrows, working on your shape and utilizing semi-permanent make-up. Her work has achieved a cult following among celebrities, tastemakers and locals. But you can also book in during a visit to London.

“I’ve lived in London my whole life, but I’ve found my home off Portobello Road [in Notting Hill] in the last ten years,” she says. “I never want to leave. To be a Londoner to me is to coexist in this wonderful melting pot of cultures. It makes me proud to be part of a local community that lives so dynamically with one another.

Below, she shares some favorites in her hometown.

For breakfast or a coffee

My favorite breakfast and coffee spot is the long-standing Bluebelles of Portobello, facing Ray’s flower shop. It provides me with my morning ‘Caravan’ caffeine hit.

For lunch or dinner

You’re spoiled for choice around this part of London! Top of my list at the moment has to be Dorian on Talbot Road, a rowdy local bistro with sharing plates to die for and best enjoyed sitting at the bar.

I am currently in my spiritual home of Thailand, so I am already eyeing up Fitou’s on Dalgarno Gardens for when I inevitably get withdrawals after returning home. When a friend does come to town I’ll have the perfect excuse!

The museum to visit over and over again

I’ve always felt connected to the National Portrait Gallery—an endless source of inspiration.

Favorite shops

I’m not much of a shopper but there are some select brands I will wear until the clothes fall off me. My favorites have to be Margaret Howell, Bella Freud and Alex Eagle–these women have design and tailoring down to a tee.

How to spend a free hour

A free hour is best spent on a walk from home to the Royal Albert Hall via Kensington Gardens with my little dog Rosie. The greenery and serenity of the park really takes you out of the hustle and bustle to appreciate the moment. She will likely refuse to walk home but I’m happy to compromise in taking the bus.

For first-time visitors

There’s nothing better than walking around and observing this wonderful city. Don’t forget to look up, you’ll be surprised how much you miss.

A favorite film set in the city

It has to be Notting Hill–as cheesy as it is, it always warms my heart.
