Emma’s youth was shaped by a number of family vacations with her three sisters. In high school, her family moved to Sablet, France for a semester-long sabbatical, where she got a taste of the Provençal life. Emma graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2013 with a B.A. in History and minor in Classics, and her most memorable travels have in some way related to her studies—Pompeii came alive during a tour of the ancient ruins, and a school trip to Madrid brought her face-to-face with Picasso’s apocalyptic Guernica, prompting a focus on European history and more specifically, World War II, during college.
