To say that Beijing is like visiting the future is true, because there’s no doubt that China will have enormous influence on world affairs. To understand where we are going, you must see it, but be prepared for disorientation. Feel the energy of the rapid change and be sure to spend time seeing some of its World Heritage sites and digging beneath the surface.

    Three Days: Essential Beijing

Beijing is an overwhelming sprawl and touring the city demands stamina, an organized itinerary and an excellent guide. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1: Intro to Beijing

Begin with a guided tour through Beijing’s historical sites. Start with the vast Tiananmen Square, where your guide will explain the significance of China’s Parliament. Next, walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace and the Forbidden City, the former home to China’s Imperial Dynasties. After lunch at an atmospheric dim sum eatery, visit the Hutongs, the small lanes and former courtyard houses of Old Beijing, where your guide can take you to visit the lesser-known alleyways (you may also opt to see the site via traditional pedi-cab). Enjoy dinner at a local hotspot for Peking duck.

    • Day 2: The Great Wall

Today, visit The Great Wall of China. Your guide will escort you to the region of the wall called Mutianyu, where there will be ample opportunity to explore this section of the Wall and take in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. After a picnic lunch, return to the city and enjoy the remaining day at your leisure. This evening, enjoy a fantastic performance of KungFu, the traditional martial art of China.

    • Day 3: Temple of Heaven and Special Experiences

There are several options for your final day in the Chinese capital. You may opt for a guided visit of the magnificent Temple of Heaven, where the Emperors came to pray for good harvests and today where local residents come for morning exercises such as Tai Chi and Ballroom dancing. Indagare can also arrange a private Tai Chi lesson, cooking class or craft lesson. Later tonight, experience the regional cuisine through a guided tour of the night food market, an Indagare favorite tour, to sample delicious local specialties.

“In Beijing, everything feels foreign and unfamiliar, from the endless Soviet-style buildings to the uniformed soldiers marching in formation through the streets. But despite the onslaught of traffic and smoggy skies, Beijing has a deeply significant history that is etched into every part of the city.”
