Xin Le Li Nan Long, Huangpu Qu, Shanghai Shi, China, 200000
Located on Xizang Nan Lu, in Shanghai’s atmospheric old town, the Bird and Flower Market is one of the most evocative sights to see in the city. Here, hundreds of crammed stalls sell exotic plants and crickets in glass jars, which are used for cricket-fighting – still a popular sport among the city’s older generation. The vast majority of the people buying and selling in the market are locals. Just across the road is also a small outdoor antiques market; while most of the wares are fake, it is a fun place to pick up a knickknack or two.
