Opened in late 2017 as the first Southeast Asian resort from the Rosewood hotel brand, the Rosewood Phuket brings all the bells and whistles to its nearly 2,000-foot stretch of beautiful beachfront at Emerald Bay. For couples and families looking for top-notch resort offerings, the Rosewood delivers. Guests can take advantage of the large pool area (including a lap pool, activity pool and children’s pool), 24-hour fitness center and long list of treatments at the Asaya spa, or they can simply relax on the sand. There are four dining outlets to choose from—Ta Khai for Thai cuisine, Red Sauce for Italian fare, The Shack for casual seafood and the Mai Bar and Lounge—and families will enjoy the excellent kids’ club, beach toys, games and sports.
Located on the hillside by downtown Patong, approximately one hour from the airport, the Rosewood encompasses 71 villas and pavilions, featuring comfortable, modern designs in a neutral color palette. The property feels fresh and contemporary with details like local Thai cookbooks and stylish Marshall Speakers. The spacious, tranquil rooms each include floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor seating and a pool.
The resort prides itself on its sustainable focus; while building the hotel, the designers used indigenous materials and transplanted all existing flora to other areas of the resort. In addition, the property boasts the largest solar renewable energy system of any Phuket hotel. Guests will require golf carts to traverse the resort which is spread out across the hillside. Our favorite accommodations are the Beachfront Villas which are set right on the Emerald Bay beach.
The Rosewood’s sole drawback is its location in the relatively developed and touristed Patong, as guests can see some of these developments from the Rosewood’s beach. It’s also important to note that all beaches in Thailand are considered public, so non-guests are occasionally seen at the hotel’s beach despite its removal from the more crowded sections of Patong.
Who Should Stay
Families and multi-generational groups would be happy here, but the privacy of the accommodations would also appeal to couples.
