Villa Bokeh

Surrounded by a large garden, hacienda-style Villa Bokeh offers a dose of serenity in the lively, colorful town of Antigua.

Villa Bokeh makes for a breathtaking first impression. After driving through the narrow cobblestone streets on the outskirts of Antigua, you turn, passing through a small white gate. The city disappears, leaving behind a charming 6-acre property. You'll find lush walking paths, a bamboo forest, a view the Volcán de Agua (one of the three volcanos that you can see from Antigua), and a life size chess board as you explore the garden oasis.

Inside, Villa Bokeh embraces a range of curated interiors across its sixteen rooms which transports you into your own unique getaway**,** though the property generally embraces a white and muted color palette. The owners work closely with local artisans, whose art, textiles and handicrafts decorate the property.

As part of Relais & Chateaux, Villa Bokeh prioritizes excellent cooking, and meals are a delicious showcase of all of the locally grown food Guatemala has to offer. Think fresh fruit, fish ceviche, homemade ravioli, and traditional Guatemalan plates.  Guests (and a sizable number of locals in search of a great dinner) enjoy their meals on outdoor patio near the fountain (look up, and you’ll also get a stellar view of the mountains). 

While small children will enjoy hunting for the six garden gnomes hidden in the gardens, there is not much to do on-property (besides relaxing at the pool or in the spa). Luckily, UNESCO-recognized Antigua is just outside the garden walls. Founded in the 1500s, it developed as a thriving hub during the age of Conquistadors, and its planned streets—inspired by the Italian Renaissance—were lined with grand churches and monuments. An earthquake in 1773 destroyed most of the city, and today its grand churches remain as ruins worthy of exploring.

Families, couples and friends who prefer a serene escape along with their city exploration could easily spend one to three nights here while experiencing Antigua.
