Scarfe’s Bar

Some hotels create stylish spaces and hope that a crowd as beautiful as the scenery will come to give it life. Many times however, they don’t and the just-so room remains eerily empty but for a bartender and occasional guest. This is not the case at the Rosewood Hotel’s Scarfe’s Bar, which is a gorgeous concoction of setting and scene. In the grand space with marble columns and arched windows, the herringbone wood floors are strewn with carpets and a fire roars at one end of the room. Bookshelves groan with leather-bound tomes and velvet banquettes and armchairs are piled with ikat pillows. There’s a Trinity College Library meets Ottoman den feeling to the place and the iconic portraits of Gerald Scarfe for whom the bar was named) peer out from frames on the walls. Scarfe may be most famous for his art on the cover of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” album but over the years, he has drawn many of Britain’s celebrities—they all seem to be here in pen and ink if not in person.
