RIZES Mykonos - Folkore Farmstead, Maou, Ano Mera, Greece
In the island’s interior, away from the thumping beach club tunes or the crowds of Mykonos Town, Rizes has become a mecca for visitors wanting to experience authentic (actually, though!) Mykonian food in a traditional setting. The Zouganelis family—a father-mother-daughter trio—run both the dreamily laid-back restaurant and the adjacent five-acre farm, which supplies 100 percent of the ingredients for Rizes’s menus.
Visitors can explore the farmstead in between courses of salads and pies, fresh-baked breads (from a stone oven that’s on view) and platters of lamb, goat, pork or chicken (grilled in a brick pit near the outdoor seating). Chilled Greek wines and ouzo are a natural pairing.
