There are certain hotels that are defined by their location, and there are certain destinations that are defined by the properties that call them home. Rosa Alpina is one of the finest examples of the latter. The hotel has been owned by the Pizzinini family since 1939, and every detail—from the design of the 52 rooms to the terrific spa—has come from the minds of its members, who are often around and chatting with guests, making it feel as though you are now part of a large Italian family. During the day, you’ll keep busy exploring the majesties of the mountains—by foot, bike or ski—with the amazing team of guides, and then by sampling the four on-property restaurants serving everything from fine dining to wood-fired pizza and fondue. Yet, among these many delights, it is the heartfelt service that will make you want to join the club of guests who return to Rosa Alpina year after year.

The Standout: Châlet Zeno, a three-bedroom residence, with a private garden, a Finnish sauna and a Jacuzzi Don’t Miss: Dinner or a cooking class at the three-Michelin-starred St. Hubertus, where Executive Chef Norbert Niederkofler and his team of talented young chefs serve delectable regional dishes following his “Cook the Mountain” philosophy

Review

Rosa Alpina has been a part of the Pizzinini family, longtime residents of the region, for over 70 years. Every detail has come from the minds of a Pizzinini family member, making it feel as though you are staying in a stylish friend's home rather than at a hotel. The wood-panel common areas exude cozy charm, with lots of fireplaces, stuffed sofas and armchairs, and nooks for reading and reflecting. The property has just 52 rooms, including 18 suites and 22 rooms, all with mountain views and incredibly cozy yet chic décor. No two of them are alike. Frequent updates have assured that the hotel remains warm and stylish, with rich fabrics, light-wood furnishings and Tyrolean-style antiques. The best ones come with terraces and fireplaces. The Rosa Alpina Spa, now run in partnership with Aman, uses natural and organic products and is a destination in itself, where après-ski indulgences include sport and fitness massages, rejuvenating facials or enriching body treatments.

If your version of  perfect après-ski is more focused on food and drink, the hotel has four restaurants on-property, offering everything from Michelin-starred cuisine to fondue. The hotel’s culinary pièce de résistance is its three-Michelin-starred Restaurant St. Hubertus, which put the Alta Badia region on the culinary map worldwide. The menu features incredible imagination and often-changing items. Unsurprisingly, cooking classes have become sought-after with the famed chef who teaches both adults and children how to make pizza and other local delicacies. Additionally, the hotel renovated two mountain cabins located just at the top of the Piz Sorega gondola where guests can enjoy a BBQ lunch prepared by an onsite chef (and even overnight as a family during the summer months).

Aside from the hotel’s incredible property, it truly is the staff that makes guests want to return year after year (with many returning for over 20 ski seasons). From the reception team to the bartenders to the management, everyone is eager to accept you into their home (many staff live on-property) and help you enjoy the Alta Badia region to its fullest extent. During the day, visitors of the hotel are busy exploring the great outdoors—whether it’s the challenging slopes of this varied terrain during the winter or the gorgeous hikes during the summer.

Who Should Stay

Couples and families alike looking for a mountain home away from home, year-round (that also happens to serve up some of the region's best food and spa treatments). With a variety of activities, outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers could go a whole week at Rosa Alpina without being bored.
