Review
This is a sophisticated Baroque palace property, built in 1775 in Lecce’s pedestrian area, and serves as the sister hotel to La Fiermontina, just a few blocks away. Owners Antonia Felali and her brother Giacomo Fiermonte have lovingly restored the 18th-century palazzo as a tribute to their grandmother’s brother, Italian boxing legend Enzo Fiermonte. It has 10 unique suites (many with high vaulted ceilings and balconies overlooking buzzy Via Umberto I or the garden), along with spacious, chic living rooms for use by guests and an after-hours honor bar. Guests can also enjoy the garden, pool, restaurant and bar at La Fiermontina, or have a private tour of the rest of the family’s art collection in the M.A.M.A. Museum, just steps from the palazzo, where sculptures by Antonia and Giacomo’s grandfather, French artist René Letourner, are on display.
The small staff is gracious and helpful and allow you to feel as if you are quite on your own, if you prefer. A tasty breakfast (with fresh juices and delicious pasticciotti) is served in the palazzo garden. Be advised that guests driving on their own must park at La Fiermontina, since the palazzo is located in a pedestrian zone. They will then be escorted or driven up the street to the property. If this doesn’t sound appealing, then stay at La Fiermontina instead. Either property makes a good base for exploring Otranto and points further south. This is not the property for anyone with mobility issues, as there is a fair amount of walking involved and a grand staircase is required to access the upper floors.
