Trolltunga

Unnamed Road, 5770 Røldal, Norway

One of the most strenuous hikes in Norway, the trek to Trolltunga, a beautiful cliff that juts out more than 2,200 feet above Lake Ringedalsvatnet, takes roughly 10-12 hours. Oft-photographed, the famous attraction requires that those who visit it be very committed, as the journey is long and intense. The rock formation, which perhaps most closely resembles Pride Rock from The Lion King, can only be reached when the high mountain snow has melted, usually from mid-June to mid-September. The setting-off point for the hike is also hard to reach; it is a roughly three-hour drive from Bergen.
