Mercado da Ribeira

Lisbon’s largest food market, housed in a 19th-century building, was partially converted to a food court in 2014 by Time Out magazine. It now hosts over 40 curated kiosks hawking local specialities from around the country. Visitors can sample freshly sliced cured ham from the Alentejo region, Portugal’s iconic pregos (steak sandwiches) and a wide array of the countries delectable pastries, pick up tinned sardines in colorful packaging to take home, or compare draft beers from Portugal, Mozambique and other Lusophere countries. There are also several stands from the country’s high-profile chefs and restaurants (popular Lisbon cevicheria Sea Me has an outpost here, for instance).
