The Baltschug Kempinski’s location, in the Zamoskvarechya district south of the river Moskva, affords the property gorgeous views of the nearby Kremlin, Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral. Right in front of the hotel, a staircase leads onto the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, so intrepid guests can walk to main sights, such as the Red Square and the Kremlin in 15 minutes. But the hotel is also just far enough from the city center that it provides guests with a quiet escape after a day of sightseeing or meetings.

While the property’s interiors are not incredibly unique, the traditional Russian décor feels appropriate, and should guests desire something slightly more inspired, the Kempinski has a number of Design Suites, which are more opulent (a favorite is the one designed by David Linley). The hotel has 227 rooms and suites in total, and 38 of these rooms and suites were renovated in 2015. The upper level suites — Kremlin Suites, Red Square Suites and David Linley Design Suites — are lovely and strongly combine traditional décor with modernity. The suites are expansive and ideal for families. It is not recommended to book the un-renovated rooms here.

While the hotel has a spa and fitness center (with a weekly yoga class offering views of the Kremlin), it is in need of a refresh. Hotel Baltschug offers three places to eat and drink on property: buffet breakfast is served at the Baltschug Grill, the lobby lounge is the perfect place to relax for a drink, dessert or tea, and Cafe Kranzler is the hotel’s main restaurant serving new and old Russian recipes. You can sit at Cafe Kranzler for afternoon tea, an afternoon cocktail or enjoy a full meal. In the summer, the restaurant opens its terrace.
