Lay of the Land
Lausanne sits on the northern banks of Lake Geneva overlooking the Swiss Alps. Forty minutes from the international airport in Geneva, the small city has a single metro line, which is used by locals and visitors alike. Small ski resorts are located less than an hour away and the famed Zermatt is a two-hour drive to the southeast, while Zurich is two and a half hours by car or train. Outside of town are many vineyards with an extensive range of grape varieties, the most prevalent being Chasseles. Neuchâtel, another lakeside town with a small college and additional vineyards is a half-hour north of Lausanne and 20 minutes east of the French border.
