trinity church newport
Built in 1698, this Episcopal church in the center of Newport still holds Sunday services and is the setting for many beautiful weddings. The gleaming white, pointed spire that rises above Queen Anne’s Square acts as the de facto center of town. Inside, light streams in from multi-paned windows and the wooden pews sit in boxes facing each other, a reminder of when families staked claim to their own sections. The large wooden chandeliers that hang over the nave give a sense of how the church looked when it was solely lit by candles.
