Few hotels in New York City have such an enviable location as 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge: along the waterfront at Brooklyn Bridge Park near its namesake bridge—whose proximity makes Manhattan easily accessible. (It’s also steps away from the Dumbo ferry stop, connecting passengers to Wall Street and Midtown, as well as Brooklyn’s other waterfront neighborhoods.)

Inside, the hotel is a study in industrial-chic, with ubiquitous use of reclaimed wood and stone, polished concrete and steel. The resulting color scheme—tans, grays, blacks and browns—feels decidedly urban, which in the rooms overlooking the park and the water makes for a striking contrast to the nature just outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. Some rooms face inland to a gray neighboring building with the B.Q.E highway roaring by, so this is one instance where splurging for a better view is really worth it. The best rooms have windows which slide fully open, creating something of an in-room balcony, as well as hammocks. All accommodations have live plants (from small, table top greenery up to large potted trees), filtered water taps (plus refillable glass bottles) and custom sustainable mattresses from New York-based company Keetsa. For dining, the ground floor Neighbors coffee shop serves excellent (though pricey) espresso drinks and pastries, and draws guests as well as locals and out-of-towners passing through Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Osprey, also on the ground floor, serves new American cuisine in a plant-filled indoor space or on a patio within the park. The real treat, though, is Harriet’s, a bi-level lounge and rooftop with light bites and panoramic views. It’s around the corner from the hotel’s beautiful, if small, rooftop pool, which is available exclusively to guests only (unlike several other Brooklyn “urban resorts” like The William Vale, which sell pool passes to weekend pool parties).

Other activities available include a fitness center with access to personal trainers, along with a spa. Guests can also test drive an Audi e-tron, the official electronic vehicle for all 1 Hotels.

Visitors to New York excited at the prospect of crossing the Brooklyn Bridge or taking a ferry to get to Manhattan; anyone looking for prime water and skyline views; families with older kids who would enjoy an outdoor pool and easy access to one of the city’s top parks.
