Due to the six-month-long waiting list for a reservation, a meal at Langbaan cannot be a spur-of-the-moment decision. And yet, the cuisine is so good that—for devoted foodies—a dinner reservation here should be confirmed before booking flights to Portland. The Thai tasting menu restaurant fuses an eclectic atmosphere—it is hidden behind a trick bookcase in PaaDee, another Thai restaurant, and features industrial-cool décor—with a fine-dining experience. The tiny eatery seats only a handful of guests at a time, and serves a rotating menu based on 100-year-old royal Thai recipes. Dinner consists of 12 courses, which might include a few snacks and salads and then a smattering of platters like gang phed prik, an aromatic red curry with aged lamb, green peppercorn, brussels sprouts and basil.
