N Bishop Ave at Davis Dallas
Located southwest of the uptown-downtown hub, the Bishop Arts District has grown into a groovy, artsy neighborhood that feels distinctly different from the rest of Dallas. It’s not as large as locals might lead you to believe when they are gushing about it, and there isn’t nearly as much art as you might like, but the independent boutiques and galleries, together with some fine restaurants, are worth seeking out. Most of them are concentrated on the few blocks between West Davis and Melba streets.
One of the best shop is Bishop Street Market (419 N. Bishop Ave.; 214-941-0907), a spacious corner boutique that has a nicely tweaked selection of tableware, gifts, paper products and children’s toys. While you are shopping in the neighborhood, have lunch at Hattie’s, or stop for coffee at Cretia's (500 N. Bishop Ave.; 214-941-0082), a fine bakery and café.
