Do you offer different types of Indagare Journeys?

There are three types of Indagare Journeys: Insider Journeys, Indagare Journeys and Private Journeys. Each type of trip is described below. To see our upcoming journeys go to indagare.com/journeys.

What is an Indagare Journey?

An Indagare Journey is designed by our team to allow you to explore personal passions—from Art, Design & Fashion, Food & Wine and History & Culture to Wellness, Adventure, Conservation and more. Our itineraries offer behind-the-scenes access and one-of-a-kind experiences with maximum cultural immersion, while providing the highest levels of quality and service in the company of like-minded members of the Indagare community.

Indagare Journeys offer carefully curated experiences similar to Insider Journeys but with a somewhat more flexible and independent approach. A host from Indagare accompanies the group on most trips, depending on the size. Participants also often connect with local tastemakers, designers, thought leaders in the destinations we visit.

What is an Indagare Insider Journey?

An Insider Journey is a carefully planned itinerary that has been vetted by Indagare founder, Melissa Biggs Bradley, and is always led by specialist hosts—experts in their fields. Itineraries include the highest levels of quality and service, and blend exceptional destination highlights with special behind-the-scenes access and one-of-a-kind experiences. Hosts open doors to the local insiders—tastemakers, designers and thought leaders—who are defining, shaping and protecting the places we visit that only they can provide.

Visiting the bustling flower market first thing in the morning and then walking over to the Govind Dev Ji Temple for the morning prayer was so beautiful and joyful with the whole community chanting and singing, we all marveled that it would be such a wonderful way to start every day.

What makes Insider Journeys special?

Thanks to the intimate size of Indagare Journeys and our expert guides and hosts, Indagare Insider Journeys entail much more than just sightseeing. Each day is designed to offer maximum immersion in and exploration of a destination’s history and culture. Plus, every itinerary includes special additions such as private trunk shows, chef’s table dining, curator-led tours and other unique experiences not available to the regular traveler.

Do members have advance invitations to join Journeys?

Invitations for Journeys are extended to members and past Journey travelers during special preview days. If additional spots remain after the preview access period, they are then open to non-members of the Indagare community. Most journeys book up immediately, so please contact our team at journeys@indagare to inquire about availability.

How long has Indagare been doing small-group trips?

Indagare has been leading and planning small-group Journeys since 2009 as a way for members of the Indagare community to travel together to extraordinary destinations, many of which are on the verge of dynamic cultural transformation. We have led trips everywhere from popular destinations like France, Italy, Africa, California, Arizona, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, Mexico City and the Riviera Maya, along with India, Brazil, Jordan, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia. We have also led trips to “off-limits” destinations such as Cuba, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Iran, Ethiopia, as well as Russia and Lebanon. To see upcoming journeys go to indagare.com/journeys.

Is there a limit to the group size of an Indagare Journey or Insider Journey?

Each trip is carefully curated to optimize the experience for all guests, based on the destination, special access, activities and events created. Trip size is always noted on the landing page of each Indagare Journey.

We had a wonderful trip with you and the rest of your staff. Neither of us are much for large group travel but that was by far the best experience we have had with a tour group.

Who are the hosts for Indagare Insider Journeys?

Our roster of Journeys hosts includes Indagare founder Melissa Biggs Bradley, senior members of the Indagare staff and an array of guest hosts, experts in their domain, including art historian Page Knox and spiritual guide and author Elizabeth Lesser. Itineraries for most of our small-group trips can also be customized for private Journeys.

Will I feel comfortable traveling with people I have not met before on an Indagare Journey?

Many Journeys participants join a trip without already knowing other people. In fact, amazing friendships are often made because the trips attract curious, interesting, open-minded people and they get to share really special experiences. Says Melissa Biggs Bradley, Indgare Founder and CEO, “I have made some of my very best friends on these trips and they are people that I never would have met otherwise. I have some friends who purposely now go on trips without friends just because they really want to meet new people. So you should feel comfortable signing up for any trip whether you know someone or not.

How will I know if the pace of a trip is right for me?

The pace of each trip is carefully vetted by our team to ensure an optimal experience for all participants. Those with specific concerns may contact our sales team for more information to help determine whether a trip is right for you.

Are flights included?

No. Flights are not included in the price of the trip. In some instances internal flights are included and these are noted on each trip itinerary. We partner with Altour’s flight desk who can assist with flights. Those who would like additional assistance can contact journeys@indagare.com for more information. There is a $75 ticketing fee per ticket.

Are all meals included on a trip?

Many of the meals and special dinners for the group on a journey are included. All meal inclusions are noted in the itinerary.

Can you accommodate my food restrictions or allergies?

Yes. Please be sure to alert us about your needs so that we might ensure they are addressed and alternate options are available for you in advance of travel.

Can I create my own private journey or recreate a more personalized Indagare Journey or Indagare Insider Journey itinerary with my own group?

Absolutely! Many of our Journeys can be customized for a large family and/or a group of friends traveling together, though some of the itinerary inclusions may vary depending on the availability of our specialists, local sources and group size. Contact our Indagare Journeys Team at journeys@indagare.com to help you get started.

Can I add on a destination at the beginning or end of the Journey?

Yes. Indagare can help with your pre- and post-trip arrangements to the destination of your choice. These arrangements will be handled by our travel design team. In some destinations we offer post-trip extensions that have already been planned and priced. Contact journeys@indagare.com for more information.

What is the deposit policy for an Indagare Journey?

Typically, a 50 percent non-refundable deposit payment is required to hold a spot on a journey. Payment schedules can vary, depending on the date of booking.

What is your refund policy?

All payments are non-refundable. No refunds will be made for travel or travel-related services booked and then not used, if you cancel your travel plans, or if Indagare is forced to cancel the Program for any reason or due to a force majeure event. (See What happens if the trip is canceled?, below and read our Terms & Conditions for more detailed information about refunds and cancellations.

What happens if the trip is canceled?

Indagare must strictly adhere to its Cancellation Policy, which may include but are not limited to: advance payments to land operators; communication expenses; development and the loss of time that might have permitted resale of reserved space; and transaction fees associated with processing your payments or payments. Indagare shall not be liable for any airline cancellation penalties incurred by the purchase of a non-refundable ticket or for any changes to airline policies regarding refunds and credits. In the case of a cancellation due to shortage of participants, Indagare Travel will attempt to notify all participants at least 45 days prior to departure. However, Indagare reserves the right to cancel the Program prior to departure for any reason or due to a force majeure event. Force majeure events include, but are not limited to, acts of God, strikes, wars, civil unrest, acts of terrorism, severe weather, sickness, quarantine, global pandemic or other serious health or safety issues or governmental restrictions. In most cases, if Indagare cancels a program, Indagare will use its best efforts to reschedule the program within a reasonable period of time at no or at as little additional cost as possible to participants. However, if the Program is canceled and Indagare is unable to reschedule the Program at no cost or for any additional cost, or if you are unable or unwilling to participate in the rescheduled Program, reimbursement of costs Indagare is able to obtain from third party providers for the Program less any transaction fees associated with processing your payment or payments shall be the only refundable costs and receipt of same by you shall constitute full settlement. Upon trip payment to Indagare, you agree to be bound by the above Cancellation Policy. For more about our policies, please see our Terms & Conditions.

Do I need travel insurance?

Trip cancellation / emergency medical evacuation / baggage / accident and sickness insurance protection is strongly recommended. Indagare can provide an insurance quote at the time of booking. Participants may select any insurer of their choice. Most types of travel insurance are only available within a short period of time after booking travel, sometimes within 21 days of such booking. To help you travel more safely, responsibly and seamlessly, as part of your signup and registration, all guests on International Indagare Journeys receive Global Rescue coverage for the dates of their journey as an added benefit. This means that in the event that an emergency occurs during the trip, guests have access to a variety of services, including medical assistance and evacuation assistance. (See below for more.) Global Rescue is not the same as travel or trip insurance, which—among other features—offers financial protection concerning situations that occur before a trip begins and require a change or cancellation of travel plans. These can include personal or family illnesses or other unexpected factors such as lost luggage, flight disruption, illnesses or accidents that require emergency medical treatment and/or hospitalization. Indagare recommends opting into an additional insurance plan well in advance of your trip. Please be advised that Indagare is not a licensed insurance company or advisor.

What is Global Rescue?

Global Rescue was founded in 2004 and has five operations centers and offices in five countries, with 200+ medical centers of excellence worldwide and 20,000+ operations globally. Global Rescue operations centers are staffed by experienced nurses, paramedics and military special operations veterans.

For the duration of any Indagare Journey you have access to:

  • 24/7 medical assistance and advisory services for natural disasters, terror attacks and civil unrest.
  • Evacuations from the point of injury/illness to home country hospital (at no additional cost)
  • Travel intelligence services, including alerts and real-time destination reports for 215 countries

Additional services include: symptom triage, referral to local hospital or clinic, urgent/emergency message relay, telephonic support, health information services, replacement of lost medical supplies & medical triage.

Am I bound to the Indagare Journey itinerary?

Yes. Each Indagare Journey has been optimized for a small group and participation in the majority of activities is expected. If you prefer to privatize an itinerary or add on a destination at either end of the itinerary, please contact insiderjourneys@indagare.com.

Are there minimum age requirements for participants and are Indagare Journeys appropriate for families?

Indagare Journeys are designed primarily for adult travelers. Many of our itineraries can be adapted for young adults. For questions, contact journeys@indagare.com

Are all Indagare Journeys designed to be sustainable?

At Indagare, we believe that travel can and should have a positive impact on the destinations we visit. Indagare is proud to operate as a 100 percent carbon-neutral company. Each trip achieves carbon neutrality through offsetting 100 percent of unavoidable emissions, including flights booked through Indagare, through certified carbon projects. Our Impact Fund works to preserve culture, heritage and the environment. Through the Indagare Impact Fund, we donate nearly two percent of our annual revenue to carefully vetted initiatives and organizations, including Zimbabwe’s Long Shields Lion Guardians. Together with our community, we ensure that your trips are helping to positively reshape and sustain the destinations you experience with us. Donations made to local community organizations are shared with participants during the journey.
