Review

Guests arrive to Aguas Arriba Lodge via a 15-minute transfer on the hotel's small boat across a Patagonia lake. The owners Pato and Ivor call the lodge their "hometel," and they truly mean it. This cozy, cabin-style lodge has just six bedrooms and comfortable common spaces on the main floor, including a dining area, small den and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a cozy fireplace.

As the only lodge on the lake, Aguas Arriba offers a unique and special experience, perfect for travelers who are seeking a remote destination and want to truly unplug and enjoy nature. The lodge has a small staff that lives on site during the season, adding to the intimate familial vibe. Each evening, guests sit down with the lodge’s guide and map out their next days' excursions.

Because of the shared common spaces, travelers can expect to interact with other guests during their stay and will likely do most of the daily excursions together. The owners take time to get to know their guests and do their best to accommodate any special requests.

The hotel is very eco-minded and aims to leave a minimal footprint. Guests are asked to use the provided organic bath products, and they only run the hot water twice a day – once in the morning and evening. However, if guests need hot water or want to shower in the middle of the day after a long excursion, they are happy to turn it on.

The cozy and comfy rooms maintain a cabin feel with floor-to-ceiling wood panels and plush linens. For the best views, book one of the two corner premium suites that overlook Mt. Fitz Roy. However, guests won’t be spending too much time in their rooms, as the real purpose of staying here is exploring the magnificent outdoors.

Who Should Stay

Nature lovers and active types who will adore the owners' appreciation of their surroundings and the easy access to miles of hiking trails, glacier treks and incredible mountain views. Travelers who need to stay connected should look elsewhere as there is no WiFi or data access and just one computer plugs into the wall for Internet service.
