This boutique hotel is tucked into the corner of a charming plaza in the Chiado neighborhood just steps from Praca do Comercio, the largest square in Europe. The neighborhood has some of the best shops and restaurants, all within walking distance of the hotel. The décor is eclectic and shabby chic with a jumble of Portuguese textiles and antiques adorning the public spaces. The small lobby opens into the hotel’s brasserie, Delfina, which serves local cuisine and a large family-style breakfast. In keeping with the historic location and the character of the 18^th-century building, the guest rooms feature Oushak-like carpeting and comfy linen club chairs. Each room is slightly different so some have fireplaces, ceramic tiles, stone floors or exposed beams. Sizes range from small doubles to the twelve suites, which have sitting areas and kitchenettes and can accommodate an extra bed for kids. All have local Portuguese products like lovely linens and soaps as well as modern amenities such as flat screen TVs. Bathrooms are a bit tight with only showers, and there is no gym or salon.
