Review

Lima has become a bustling city fraught with honking taxis, pulsing music, bargaining market goers and boisterous chatter. But tucked into the residential area of Miraflores, Santa Maria street is a calm oasis where neighbors waive, wash their cars and hurry children in for supper. Here, a beautiful yet unassuming Tudor home sits surrounded by manicured landscaping and a wrought-iron fence. Without an exact address, one would never know that this is the site of boutique hotel Atemporal, conceptualized and run by the same group behind Arequipa's CIRQA and Lake Titicaca’s Titilaka.

Atemporal, which means “the suspension of time,” accomplishes just that: the 1920’s family home features cool design touches like vintage film posters, contemporary art coffee table books, Peruvian artifacts, sleek lighting and minimalist furniture. The hotel, which feels more like a bed-and-breakfast, offers six rooms divided amongst three categories - we suggest the Grand Rooms for their natural light and bathrooms with standalone tub and double sinks. Each room features a Smart TV with Netflix, air conditioning and heating.

A common space highlight is the lovely lavender-laden garden in the backyard. Here, guests enjoy breakfast and can stop later for a just-back-from-touring beverage on the garden’s couch, the best seat in the house. An "Honor Bar" is available for guests to take alcoholic beverages as they please, logging their selections on the trusted notepad. The yard is also home to tiny purple hummingbirds that hover and dash. Busy and frantic, the birds stand as a sharp contrast to the easygoing, tranquil vibe of Atemporal.

The hotel’s eager staff is at your beck and call and can provide excellent, educated recommendations for what to see, where to eat and what to do in their beloved city. The team will even lend you a hotspot to ensure you do not get lost en route and can arrange for their driver on call to transport you around the city. If you are looking for a more active tour, the four bicycles parked in the garden are available for guests’ use on a first-come-first served basis.

Who Should Stay

Atemporal is the perfect fit for the guest looking for a more local, bed-and-breakfast vibe and those willing to be a car ride away from most major sites, so as to have an authentic, residential experience. It's also great for groups or families looking for a six-bedroom home take-over.
