Review
Located in the foothills of New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains, just under ten minutes from downtown Santa Fe, the 317-acre Bishop’s Lodge is a wonderful addition to the Santa Fe scene. The historic property was first settled in the late 19th century by Santa Fe’s first Archbishop, Jean-Baptiste Lamy, and still has original structures in place, most notably the chapel at its heart. Ownership has changed hands many times but in spring of 2021, after an extensive $75 million renovation, it reopened under Auberge Resorts.
The property’s 100 accommodations include guest rooms, suites and casitas, all with traditional-style kiva fireplaces and private terraces from which to enjoy the serene views. Golf carts are at the ready to whisk guests to their accommodations (which are often up the hill), but the lodge and pool at the property’s center are never more than a five minute walk away. The architecture is consistent with the Pueblo Revival Santa Fe style and the interiors have local Santa Fe artwork and woven Navajo rugs.
There are a few dining outlets on property: Skyfire, the main restaurant for breakfast, lunch, cocktail hour and dinner; The Bar, adjacent to Skyfire, which serves cocktails and has an expansive patio ideal for sunset drinks; Two Dogs Café, offering casual, grab-and-go food, which is open until 2pm; and The Pool Bar, serving poolside cocktails and small bites all day.
Activities include hiking, fly fishing, mountain biking and horseback riding from the property’s stables. The Stream Dance Spa offers everything from massages and facials to vibrational sound healing, yoga and meditation.
