Review
Trailblazing Glasgow’s hotel scene, Blythswood Square epitomizes the city’s sudden renaissance as a cultural and artistic European hub. The hotel’s vibrant, upbeat atmosphere is a breath of fresh air, welcoming guests with bright, flamboyant colors that complement the classic architectural features. Warm, attentive staff members effortlessly deliver five-star service without rigid formality.
Blythswood’s 89 rooms and 11 suites offer spacious accommodation with contemporary Scottish touches – purple tweed fabrics, tartan slip covers, and artwork by local artists – giving the otherwise monochrome rooms fun bursts of color. Some street-facing rooms have floor to ceiling windows, and all rooms come with personal espresso machines. Each bathroom features a separate walk-in shower and bathtub, as well as a large glass window facing the bed.
Experience Scotland’s version of afternoon tea – aka “Happy Hour” – in a laid-back, fun setting at the Salon Bar. The bright, open layout nearly stretches the entire width of the hotel and overlooks Blythswood Square Park. If you’d prefer a quieter setting, take tea in the adjoining lounge and cozy up with a book in a comfortable club chair. When you get hungry, head downstairs to the hotel restaurant located in the auto club’s former ballroom. The casual-chic, pub-like environment offers great bites and tasty seasonal dishes.
The award-winning 10,000 square foot spa boasts nine treatment rooms, two hydrotherapy thermal pools, a crystal steam room, relaxation rooms, a large lounge area and a café. Guests can choose from a range of such high-end products as Scotland’s ishga collection, a seaweed-based product line, as well as renowned brands ila and Elemis. Due to the thermal pools’ high temperatures, children under the age of 16 are not allowed inside; however, the hotel will arrange complimentary transfer and access to a neighboring property with a splash pool just two blocks away.
Blythswood is currently revamping its design by introducing 4 new schemes for the rooms and expanding the spa to include a nail bar, beauty salon, and large café and lounge area.
