Review

As the doorman explained while whisking me through the intricately carved stone archway into the hotel’s airy lobby, staying at Casa Polanco is like staying at your “rich uncle’s private home.” Set in the center of upscale Parque Lincoln in Polanco, the property feels light years away from the hustle and bustle of Mexico City, and the Casa Polanco team has done an impressive job of recreating that feeling of walking into a private home rather than a small boutique hotel. Outside guests are not allowed in, and drinks are served at a casual honor bar in the cozy living room. The whole concept is a nod towards the splendid Spanish-revival building’s past, once the home of a Mexican aristocrat.

Despite being a smaller property, the hotel’s impressively high ceilings, pristine white walls, roof windows and abundant plant life creates a light and spacious atmosphere. The 19 rooms are simple yet elegant and done in the same, natural color palette as the rest of the hotel. While the decor is mostly minimalist, the fabulous art-deco pieces dotted throughout the common spaces and the rooms make the hotel come alive.

Casa Polanco has an impressive array of amenities for its size, including a small rooftop gym, spa room, restaurant and welcoming reading room. There are also numerous outdoor spaces, allowing guests ample opportunities to take advantage of the city’s eternally sunny weather.

Who Should Stay

Although kids are allowed on property, and suites do accommodate an extra bed, the property has a decidedly hushed and romantic feel to it that lends itself better to couples and adults. Those looking for a design-forward hotel will also love Casa Polanco’s decor and architecture.
