Review

Copperhill Mountain Lodge sits at the top of Mount Forbergert in Åre, Sweden, with beautiful vistas and a ski-in/ski-out location. The slopes are accessible right from the ski lodge and a ride on two T-bar lifts brings guests to the main ski resort. The lodge itself is modern and stark, designed by architect Peter Bohlin, who is responsible for quite a few iconic Apple retail stores as well as Bill Gates’ private residence. The lobby area displays a variety of textures, with stone and wood featuring prominently, creating a rustic interpretation of Bohlin’s usual style. It is home to a lively post-slopes bar area and restaurant that locals and guests alike enjoy. There are also great common spaces for guests to curl up with a book or gather as a group before heading out for the day.

The 112 accommodations vary in size, view and amenities, but are all simpler in their design compared to the public areas. Surprisingly for Scandinavia, this property is actually more affordable compared to many other European ski lodges, and we recommends “booking up” to ensure a more spacioius room with ample storage for ski equipment and a comfortable bathroom area.

In addition to the rooms, there is a great and, again—surprisingly affordable—villa option for groups or those looking for a bit more privacy, called “The Villa.” With room for up to 16 guests, the villa has a great view and location, and extra amenities like a private chef can be added. The 7,000-square-foot unit has seven bedrooms, five bathrooms (though not all are ensuite), two living rooms, a kitchen, dining area, sauna and gym. There is also a guest apartment with two beds and a kitchen.

Like most Scandinavian lodges in the area, service is very relaxed—don’t expect nightly turn down service or someone to assist with your luggage on arrival—but the staff are warm and helpful, especially for those trying to navigate the ski slopes. Copperhill offers great facilities, including a spa, gym and ski-shop, where you can rent equipment on-site.

Who Should Stay

Anyone looking to experience the mountains of Åre. Relaxed in its overall vibe, the lodge is perfect for those who value a great price and location over true five-star luxury.
