Review

Set on Place des Vosges, one of the oldest squares in Paris, this 12-room hotel feels akin to a private residence. Completed in October 2019, the décor is fresh and modern while maintaining many historic elements from the 17th-century residence it's housed in.

The façade of the building is almost undetectable as a hotel, with only a small sign to indicate its existence to the public. Similar to a private residence, a hard knock or ring of the doorbell is required for entrance. Soon after doing so, you are greeted by a member from the small staff who welcomes you into the property. The entry area is marked only by greenery and a small desk, where you may retrieve your keys before walking up the historic staircase or opt for the elevator to your room. (There’s also a small private courtyard where you can relax and enjoy a coffee if your room is not quite ready.) Although the property lacks in public spaces, the rooms themselves provide an oasis from the city, making guests feel as though they are staying in a friend’s private home.

The rooms and suites offer a mix of modern and classical décor, with pink and blue pastels, plush velvets and fluffy carpeting and reimagined four-poster-beds crafted out of reflective metal. The tall ceilings, fitted with 300+ year old wood carvings and beams, are historically listed, protecting them from any renovations. In many rooms, guests may find a bathtub (but be sure to request one, if it's a must). Unlike any other hotel on the square, all accommodations provide views of the historic square through floor-to-ceiling windows. Even on a gloomy day in Paris, the natural light from outside, enhanced by the warm colors and lighting, allow for an inviting space to relax.

The hotel also offers a tea room on the ground floor, which opens out onto the square for outside guests, perfect for enjoying a croissant and an espresso before heading out for the day or a light afternoon bite, while people watching. On the bottom floor you will find a Roman bath with jacuzzi jets, set into a catacomb for your private use. That said, the property does not offer a gym or spa, though a massage may be enjoyed in your room, if you wish.

Who Should Stay

Given its central location in the Marais, in close proximity to the best shopping and restaurants, this property is ideal for couples who have visited Paris before and are in search of intimate luxury accommodations, without the traditional amenities of a spa, gym or full-dining restaurant.
