Review

First built by Captain Arthur Drummond in 1874, Cromlix is an elegant Victorian Perthshire mansion and was formerly known as "Cromlix Cottage". Andy Murray purchased the property in 2013 as a way to draw visitors to the region (it is located only 3 miles from his hometown of Dunblane).

Cromlix is intimate and charming, with a relaxed country vibe. The hotel has only 16 guest rooms (10 bedrooms, five suites, and a one-bedroom Gatehouse Lodge), each has a lovely view of the surrounding gardens and woodlands. Refurbished in winter 2023, the rooms are a whimsical botanical-inspired array of eclectic furnishings, pops of color, patterns and antiques. Each room is named after native flowers and herbs to the area.

On site activities include tennis (of course), fishing on the loch, falconry display, cornhole, croquet, garden games and in-room spa treatments. Surrounding the property guests can enjoy clay pigeon shooting, archery and falconry, quad biking, off-road driving, farm visits, a trip to one of Scotland’s most famous lakes (Loch Lomond), as well as nearby historical touring, including Linlithgow Palace (where Mary Queen of Scots was born), Stirling Castle (where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned), the William Wallace Monument and Bannockburn. The property even comes equipped with its own chapel!

There is one restaurant at the hotel, Glasshouse, where guests can enjoy all-day dining and afternoon tea service. The restaurant has an open kitchen and is housed in a lovely botanical glass-walled conservatory that overlooks the garden. Next to the restaurant is a colorful bar area, perfect for enjoying pre- or post-dinner drinks.

Who Should Stay

Due to the intimate nature of the hotel and its size, this property is best for couples or couples with older children. Currently there are no rooms on the ground floor and no elevators.
