Review

Many first-time visitors to London may want to stay in classic locations such as Mayfair or Chelsea, but the West End has recently experienced a renaissance with new luxury offerings. At the center of this transformation is the new Four Seasons. Set in Trinity Square with great views of the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the Thames, the hotel opened in 2017 in the refurbished Port Authority building.

The Four Seasons dutifully embraces the address’ historical legacy. The vast majority of the property has not been renovated, as the Port Authority building was listed as a landmark and was protected from any construction that would mar the classic, pillared façade. The hotel lobby is grand and spacious, and all contemporary touches match the building’s traditional style (such as the glass- and metal-elevators that ascend alongside the original staircases).

A grand piano in the foyer marks the entrance to the Rotunda Bar & Lounge, where guests can enjoy a morning meal or the all-day dining menu which features classic English fare and afternoon tea. For fine dining onsite, guests have two options: Mei Ume, traditional Chinese and Japanese cuisine with a twist, and La Dame de Pic, a Michelin-starred French restaurant from the most decorated female chef in the world, Anne-Sophie Pic.

The guest rooms are more modernized than the common areas, and feature dark-wood accents and built-in technology (such as room-controlling iPads and mirrored TV screens). Bathrooms are spacious, and are luckily brighter than their adjacent bedrooms. Many rooms do not have views, as the pillars lining the building block a number of windows. The Heritage Suites have partial tower views, and members should contact their Travel Specialist for help choosing the best accommodations.

Still, the new Four Seasons is a wonderful option, especially due to its location. The West End has become a much more fashionable area as of late, and the hotel is ideally located to take advantage of this resurgence. West End theaters are located just around the corner from the hotel, while the hip Shoreditch is a 10-minute walk away. The Tower of London and Tower Bridge are just outside the door, and the wonderful Borough Market (a must-visit) is a short walk across the bridge.

Who Should Stay

Families and couples will love the property for its wonderful décor, food and service. However, first-time visitors may prefer to stay in a more centrally located neighborhood.
