Review

Hotel das Cataratas has 187 rooms total, including 28 suites (eight of which are part of Belmond’s Exclusive Suites Collection) and 13 falls-view rooms, tastefully designed with traditional Brazilian touches in mind, including dark wood accents, which bring some of the natural surroundings indoors. Rooms are spacious and well-equipped, and provide a serene sanctuary after a day at the falls.

When guests aren't exploring, they should take advantage of the property’s amenities. Guests can relax by the heated pool or visit Cataratas Spa for a pampering escape with a full-service treatment menu incorporating responsibly harvested rainforest ingredients. For those wishing to get more active, there is a fitness center, tennis court and a life-size chess board in the main garden. Hotel das Cataratas is a family-friendly hotel and includes a children’s pool and indoor play area for the little ones.

For all-day dining, the poolside Ipê Grill Restaurant is a casual spot with menu items like barbecued meats and vegetables, Brazilian-Italian fusion and lighter lunch fare. Open only for dinner, the romantic Itaipu Restaurant is situated on a veranda overlooking the falls, and guests can choose from a menu of signature Brazilian-international dishes (a standout: Pirarucu, an Amazonian freshwater fish which pairs perfectly with the hotel’s signature “Devil’s Throat” cocktail, made from cachaça, Campari, lime juice, cranberry juice and a drop of pepper syrup).

The property’s Tarobá Bar has one of the largest cachaça collections in all of Brazil. In addition to the Cachaça Tasting Experience offered nightly, Bar Tarobá serves up a selection of libations ranging from classic cocktails to local Brazilian favorites, including a signature caiparinha. Special dining experiences like a sunset dinner in the hotel's tower or a picnic on the lawn can be arranged.
