Review

What used to be the city’s main transformer station is now a centrally-located, boutique five-star hotel. The hotel’s design focuses on encouraging social interaction between guests over plush luxury. The public spaces and rooms are built around the concept of modest living, comprised mainly of essentials. The welcoming public spaces, the bar, courtyard and Chambre (the living room where daily happy hour and night-cap-hour are served), are all expertly designed to attract guests and encourage conversation. The team onsite is small but attentive, casual, and approachable and aim to break the barrier between guest and host. This casual air is immediately apparent when the General Manager—who acts as both receptionist and bartender—greets you from behind the bar upon arrival. The hotel’s interiors combine industrial comfort and modern-chic aesthetics. While the black walls are sharp to the eye, the rooms are calming, with faded, natural blue and green pastel themes. The furniture is designed to be functional–the bed frame, for example, acts as headrest, backrest and bedside table, with controls at your fingertips for the lights, music, or drawing of the curtains. The property is a modern five-star experience with a high-tech touch. An app, which the property suggests you download in advance, allows you to check-in and check-out, acts as your room key and is a portal to communicate directly with the hosts.

There is no spa or gym, but the hotel will provide you with a “fitness kit,” inclusive of weights, straps, and a yoga mat so you can work out in your room. In the warmer months, there is a peaceful outdoor terrace at the back of the hotel nestled within the surrounding buildings that offers space for a light morning workout or coffee in the sunshine. In the afternoon and evening, guests may choose to enjoy a drink or a snack here before dinner.

Who Should Stay

The hotel is great choice for independent travelers looking for a central location who aren't in need of round-the-clock amenities and service.
