Review

People come to Palm Springs for different reasons, a big one being relaxation by a pool with a book and a drink, cut off from the world. One of the best places to unplug (without feeling completely isolated) is Hotel Lautner; located in the Coachella Valley ten minutes from the center of Palm Springs, the four-bedroom compound is an elegant hideaway with a delightful sense of place. Though the property does not offer a full-service resort experience, guests in search of a taste of the Coachella Valley’s past and present should look no further.

John Lautner designed the building in 1947, a series of bunker-like installations originally created for a 600-acre planned gated community that would never be. The property was purchased in 2007 and after four years of renovations, Hotel Lautner opened with the best room product in the entire valley. Among the first guests were Lautner’s own daughters, who gave the hotel their resounding approval.

Architectural enthusiasts will love this place. The rooms are large and beautiful, and all of them feature massive skylights through which guests can view the stars at night. Accommodations are equipped with a kitchenette and barbecue—making the property ideal for guests in search of a home away from home. Though there’s no restaurant and no spa, the plunge pool is a great place to cool off in the southern California heat (with gorgeous views). If your visit to Palm Springs isn’t centered on a buzzy resort experience with lots of amenities, then Hotel Lautner should be a top choice as a place to lay your head in style.

Who Should Stay

As a strictly adults-only hotel, Hotel Lautner is ideal for couples or groups.

**Indagare Tip: **Since the property has only four guest rooms, it is recommended to book your reservation far ahead of time.
