Review

Set in the posh Opatija Riviera, which came into popularity in the 19th century, Ikador Luxury Boutique Hotel & Spa is well matched to its surroundings. The picturesque area is home to the Habsburg-era villas along the hillsides, the Lungomare promenade that snakes the coastline, and neighboring islands off in the distance. The elegant architecture and stunning Mediterranean scenery evoke the same sense as the French Riviera. But, while the area has a longstanding history, the property itself only opened in 2019, bringing a contemporary twist to a region otherwise dominated by more traditional options.

Upon entering the hotel lobby, your eyes are immediately drawn to the main restaurant straight ahead. This is no coincidence. The cuisine is a highlight of any stay, the kitchen led by the talented Chef Dino Knezevic. His fine dining restaurant draws modern hedonists who want to taste the local flavors of Croatia in a refined setting surrounded by seaside views. The hotel itself feels intimate, with only 16 rooms and suites. Each room is tastefully opulent, some with super-sized King Beds, lush velour sofas and armchairs, breccia medicea marble-topped tables and a sexy color palette, including marine blues and emerald greens. This contemporary aesthetic is paired with soulful touches, such as Venetian window shutters and Art Deco-style balconies inspired by neighboring villas.

The spa is a must for any guest seeking relaxation. Not only does it have the basic amenities such as a sauna, fitness room, whirlpool and treatment rooms, it also has a solarium, salt crystal relaxation lounge, zero gravity float table and vibroacoustic loungers to indulge in after a day of exploring. Treatments include the natural elements of the region. On property, there is also a main outdoor pool and a mini-golf course, and for those craving some exploration out at sea, the hotel has a James-Bond style Riva Aquariva Super speedboat available for hire.
