Review
In a city that already has two grand dame hotels, the InterContinental Edinburgh is a breath of fresh air and perhaps the largest one to cater to the next generation of travelers. The savvy, urban chic design is a cross between Ralph Lauren and Restoration Hardware. Classic tartan and top hats are replaced by sleek black kilts, gray vests and narrow black neck ties. Bartenders who in eras past donned tuxedos are now hipsters dressed in fitted slacks and pinstripe shirts who mix fusion cocktails with local ingredients.
The 240 rooms and suites are elegant and spacious, decorated in neutral hues and accented with Scottish tartans and leathers. Bedside power and USB ports make it easy for guests to charge their electronics, sometimes without needing an adapter. Red telephones connect guests directly to the guest relations team who promises to deliver or arrange anything within 60 minutes.
Who Should Stay
Families and couples who want a great location in a newly renovated property with all the modern amenities, however there is no spa or gym.
