Review

Istoria is an Instagramer's dream, with an earthy aesthetic that’s both minimal and modern but authentic to the surrounding natural environment. Each of the 12 rooms at Istoria are junior suites and are named after the word “story” in a different language. Designed around the privacy of individual space, they feature private outdoor terraces and either patios or plunge pools.

The property was originally a stable, and motifs of its equestrian heritage are present throughout the property, from horseshoe-shaped entryways to antique bridles mounted on the walls in the rooms. Interiors are an eclectic blend of Mediterranean and Greek design elements; of minimal and rustic and modern and sleek. Calming neutral tones run throughout, with natural accents of color that reflect the surrounding landscape.

The pool is lined with deep green-gray tilework, reflecting the famous dark sand beaches of the island, and offers plenty of room for sunbathing. The hotel also has a serene spa and an array of Asian-inspired wellness treatments, and has direct access to Perivolos beach, with a full-service beach club.

The hotel’s restaurant Mr. E, is not to be missed, and is worth the visit even if you are not staying at the hotel.  Serving reimagined Greek cuisine, diners can expect inventive farm-to-table dishes (vegetables are sourced from a nearby garden), fresh bread, made on-site and local greek wines and beers.

Who Should Stay

Istoria is perfect for the low-key traveler who wants to be away from the busy touristy areas on the island. It's also ideal for those who want direct beach access in lieu of caldera views.
