Review
Set high in the hills above Gargnano (about a 15-minute drive away), Lefay Resort & Spa offers unrivaled views of hilltop towns, mountains across the lake the water below. While the resort is primarily a spa, guests are not required to sign up for a spa program (offerings include everything from weight loss to a stress relief ones) or opt for any of the à la carte options, making it a sensible place to stay for exploring the region.
The 93-room hotel is not particularly design-focused, and the accommodations do have a corporate aesthetic with neutral colors and sterile furnishings, but the spa is extensive and it includes an indoor and outdoor pool, five saunas, a fitness center and Pilates and yoga studio. The focus is on wellbeing in all aspects of life, so Lefay optimizes eco-friendly practices and highlights Mediterranean cuisine at its restaurant, La Grande Limonaia. The grounds have beautiful gardens and a vineyard, as well as a 1.5-mile running track.
Who Should Stay
Families who want a large property from which to explore the region, but who don’t mind the 15-minute drive down to the waterfront. Anyone looking to tack on a few days at a spa to a European vacation will also appreciate being isolated in a beautiful setting.
