Review

Near Paepcke Park, and just a stroll away from Aspen's shops and restaurants, Mollie Aspen is a refreshing departure from the city's typical opulence. The boutique property opened its doors in December 2023 with 68 guest rooms and a distinctive "Japandi" style—blending Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian simplicity. The aura is one of serenity and relaxed comfort.

The lobby has an inviting open-plan layout, housing the main restaurant and bar which is overseen by Gin & Luck (the hospitality group behind the critically acclaimed Death & Co. in New York). Guests can work on their laptops or relax before hitting the slopes in the lobby coffee shop and cafe. This space has muted tones and an array of unique furnishings, including Mario Bellini leather sofas and vintage pieces reminiscent of Kelly Wearstler's Proper Hotels.

Although the rooms and suites are on the smaller side, they offer a cozy and functional retreat for adventurous couples who plan to spend their days exploring the mountains, without breaking the bank. For optimal comfort, we generally advise our members to consider booking higher-category rooms and suites.

While Mollie Aspen is a boutique hotel and does not offer an extensive range of amenities, it still is able to provide guests with some of the creature comforts you will find at the St. Regis and The Little Nell, just on a smaller scale. For example, the property doesn't have a spa offering, but is in the process of establishing partnerships with a nearby spa and can arrange in-room treatments for guests. And while there is not an expansive outdoor space, there is a terrace and hot tub, where guests can grab a light bite and drinks. There is a small gym onsite, but those looking for workout facilities with a wide range of equipment need look elsewhere. This winter, however, the property had complimentary yoga classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with plans to introduce other unique offerings like sound baths soon.

With a strong creative team behind the property, the hotel has secured unique collaborations, such as partnerships with Rivian for airport transfers and transportation, Parachute bedding, Coyuchi robes in the rooms and a gift shop with exclusive products including 8.6.4’s made-in-NYC cashmere beanies.

Mollie Aspen has a strong commitment to sustainability which is seamlessly integrated into the property's overarching ethos. Thoughtfully constructed, the design incorporates features such as solar panels on the roof and thermally modified Radiata pine wood siding. This choice of material aligns with the property's dedication to utilizing fast-growing and sustainably harvested resources.

Who Should Stay

Primarily catering to young couples in the 20-40 age bracket, the property offers a chic yet affordable alternative to Aspen's lavish resorts, prioritizing understated elegance over lots of amenities. Families seeking expansive facilities and white-glove service may find themselves better suited elsewhere.
